Center for Remote Sensing

ABOUT US

The Center of Remote Sensing, Institut Teknologi Bandung (CRS-ITB) was established in 24th of September, 2005. This is due to the remarkable rise of remote sensing –the science and technology of collecting information without actually touching the object. Remote Sensing proves to hold an important role nowadays, as it proves to be very versatile; it can be utilized in almost every aspect in modern life. As such, remote sensing is considered as one of the most rapidly-developing technologies.

This year (2017), CRS-ITB which was established back in 24th of September 2005, will be 12 year-old. Through its decade-long voyage, CRS-ITB has contributed in the development and implementation of remote sensing technologies in Indonesia. Besides, CRS-ITB has also conducted several scientific activities, such as seminars, workshops and symposium, both in local and international scale. Hundreds of publications have been published in numerous seminar, symposium and in local and international journals. CRS-ITB has also published several free-to access books, which is the Indonesian Remote Sensing Book (Bunga Rampai Penginderaan Jauh Indonesia). This year, several changes in its organization have been re-structured: two vice directors for research-development activities and community service, and one secretary. To strengthen the incoming activities, there are six coordinator in six main fields: biogeography and biodiversity, disaster, maritime, land use-land cover change, global database development and cadastre. Regarding the twelfth anniversary, several activities will be conducted; workshop, seminar and talkshow. Various parties, institutions, research centers, governmental bodies, as well as professional associations, communities and other parties will be invited to participate. We thank every alumnus from Institut Teknologi Bandung that have contributed in the advancement of CRS-ITB. We also thank our partners for their continuous support in our numerous activities. We also appreciate the encouragement from the Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM-ITB). We hope CRS-ITB will stand its commitment to contribute in the development of Indonesia in the future.

Researches and Publications

CRS-ITB conducts several research and development activities regularly, e.g. land use and land cover classification, instruments and software development (handheld spectroradiometer, etc.), establishment of spectral characteristics library, development of image processing methods and techniques, and many other remote sensing applications application in various purposes. CRS-ITB also actively participates in a number of symposium and conferences, both regional and internationally. In addition, CRS-ITB also hosts numerous activities, such as seminars, workshops and public lecture (stadium generale) involving various academician and practitioners.

More info regarding our researches and publications can be accessed in our Researches and Publications page.

A number of international cooperation engaging various overseas institutions has also been established: Center for Environmental Remote Sensing (CEReS), Chiba University, Japan; Department of Landscape Ecology and GIS, Faculty of Agriculture, Tottori University, Japan; Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences, Japan; Faculty of Anthropology, Stanford University, USA; etc.
